Better-than-take-out recipes. Tips for ordering takeout.

Hi Reader,

We all resort to take-out (carryout, takeaway) sometimes when we're feeling tired, rushed or lazy. But sometimes, it's just the food we crave ๐Ÿ˜‹.

So this week, we're sharing a few better-than-take-out recipes. Easy to make at home, usually more nutritious and way better in our humble opinion.

BUT, of course, most of us will still do takeout at some point. Let's face it, no prep and no cleanup can be pretty appealing. So here are a few tips for ordering takeout.

As always, hope you find something you like!

Tips when ordering takeout

  1. Order directly from the restaurant instead of an app like Uber Eats or Doordash. According to an article in The New York Times, ordering food via an app can mark up costs by as much as 91% compared to ordering your takeout straight from the restaurant. As much as 30% goes to the app instead of the restaurant.
  2. Check online for nutritional content if that's important to you (e.g. allergies). Restaurants are required to abide by FDA labeling regulations and must list the number of calories, fat content and more. โ€‹
  3. Should you tip with ordering takeout? Nowadays, the answer is yes. It shows gratitude for the extra effort required to get your order right. Usually, 15% on a large takeout order is recommended.
  4. If you need plastic ware, ask for it. Many restaurants no longer provide it automatically because of local environmental regulations. If you want to help restaurants save money (and the environment), just say no to utensils.
  5. Check for specials and deals: Many restaurants offer special discounts or deals on takeout orders. Look for any promotions or combo meals that can save you money.โ€‹
